It is all about the people

Paul Hanson is the Farm Manager.

Paul grew up in Hornsea before studying for a Sports Degree in Canterbury , followed by a Post Graduate Certificate in Primary School Education at Leeds .

The teaching career was short-lived, however, and gave way to the quest for adventure as Paul proceeded to live and work in France, the US, Spain, Venezuela and Cuba, before settling for 15 years in Spain. In between this period of travel he spent some time working for Oxfam and developed a deep concern for the plight of the World's poor and the environment.

It was whilst working for an environmental charity in Spain that he took up organic growing and became a firm advocate of low impact living. During the latter years in Spain the opportunity arose to work with an association for families of people with mental health problems in which one of the tasks was holding workshops in organic growing and beginning to develop a care farm.

In 2008 at the age of 45 he was taken seriously ill with pneumonia and diagnosed with leukemia. At this point he decided to return to his roots in Hornsea and was amazed to find the fledgling care farm almost on his doorstep. Working as a volunteer helped him to come through the difficult period of treatment for leukemia and when, in September of that year he was offered the post of Project Manager he gladly accepted. This was a perfect opportunity to fulfil his ambition of making a significant contribution to helping both people and the environment.
